Divergent Movie: Yay or Nay?

So a while back I did a post called 'The Perks of Film Adaptation'... And to be honest, I barely scratched the surface of that discussion topic. But now, I'm going to delve in deeper, and write about how I feel when my favourite books are made into movies. And what better example to explain this with than the upcoming Divergent movie?

So yes, you heard me (although you probably already knew), Veronica Roth's Divergent is being taken to the big screen. And to be honest, I have mixed feelings about this. In one sense, I'm jumping-up-and-down excited about one of my favourite books being made into a movie (YAY!)... But in another sense, I'm terrified! What if they completely spoil it? From what I've heard of the casting and shooting, it looks as if it is sticking to the novel... But I still have this small insignificant feeling that something could go wrong. I guess I'm just super protective of this book! Hehe.

But anyhow, I'm extremely happy with who has been cast as Tris (see right), and although many people are disappointed/annoyed with this choice, I think she's brilliant for the role! Yes, I know she doesn't look particularly 'tough' (like Tris)... But neither does Jenifer Lawrence if you think about it, and she's still a brilliant Katniss! As for Four, I'm a little unsure. The first three of the images below are the actors who are in the running. And yes, you'll see Alex Petyfer there. I know he is the favourite for the role, but I really, really don't want him to snag that part. I'd much rather Jeremy Irvene played Four, as he's a little more like the one I pictured in my head and he was apparently brilliant in War Horse (so can actually act). As you can see in the final picture, Kate Winslet is also going to be a part of this dystopian thriller. Although she has been confirmed as one of the cast, it hasn't been revealed which part she'll play... I'm guessing Tris' mother??? Hopefully.


So, as you can probably tell, I've got mixed (but mainly positive) feelings about this movie. Whenever one of my favourite books is made into a film, I get terrified. But hopefully the director, Neil Burger, who I haven't seen anything by, will pull this off! And luckily for the rest of us fans, it is being filmed in Chicago (where the book is actually set)! Despite my worrying, I can't wait for this adaptation. Now for me to go and get nervous about The Fault in Our Stars movie (which hasn't been cast or anything) *sigh*...
