Bookish Questions (comment your answers too)!

I've drafted and deleted & redrafted and re-deleted this post so many times. In fact, this is the seventh draft… Or maybe even the eighth. I keep on coming up with ideas for posts (like 'bookish pet peeves') but when I write them out, they don't sound right. Instead, I've decided to settle for a little bookish questions post. I've came up with the questions and feel free to answer the four of them in the comments below if you feel like it.

1) What sort of books did you love when you were younger?
Well, I loved the Harry Potter series (of course), but there were many other books that I never put down! For example, A Series of Unfortunate Events was my absolute favourite series throughout the whole of Year 2… And then, I became obsessed with The Edge Chronicles shortly afterwards. I even remember writing to Chris Riddell to tell him how much I loved his illustrations… He sent this lovely letter back (and there was also a little sketch just for me in the envelope)! So, those were the three series I loved when I was little. When I was slightly older, I really enjoyed the Secret series – they deserve more recognition!

2) Kindle or normal book?
This one is tricky! Seeing as I just got my kindle, it's difficult to say. I really enjoy highlighting all my favourite quotes and writing notes on them & I don't miss turning the pages as much as I thought I would… But I'm afraid I have to go with a normal book as there's just something so satisfying about reaching the end of a printed copy!

3) If you had to persuade people who don't read to read in one sentence, what would you say?
I don't need to say anything, John Green has already said it: "Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book." That quote is completely true. People who don't read don't realise how much a book can affect you! Sometimes books can just slap you around the face when you're least expecting it, and sometimes you're expecting it, but you're just as shocked anyway!

4) Do you enjoy reading or writing more?
This question is literally impossible! Ok, not 'literally'... But still! I love creating my own characters, and having complete control, but then I also love reading about the creations of others… Usually, I prefer the hobby I am better at… And I'm a lot better at reading than writing... But I still know I like them just the same! Let's just say, whichever one I prefer, I hope to continue reading and writing in the future!

  1. Great post Ruby! Here are my answers for a few of your questions:
    1) I used to be obsessed with anything by Jacqueline Wilson!
    2) NORMAL BOOK! Kindles are handy, but it breaks the whole authencity of a real, paper book.
    4) Although I love both, I'd say reading :)

    1. I used to read Jacqueline Wilson's books! Well, only The Bed and Breakfast Star and The Illustrated Mum... But still, she's a great author for younger readers!

  2. [1] I was a bit intimidated by books when i was young. I know, strange, but I used to read picture book (LOTS of them) and i would still do the same as i do now, I would read books that rarely anyone seemed to acknowledge when they were the best ones around.

[2] That is an easy question Normal BOOKS! They just keep you in check with art right in your hands, while Kindle or eReaders just defeat that purpose! I do not like Kindle, for whatever reason, I am very sorry.

[3] I would say this poster phrase, "IF YOU THINK READING IS BORING, THEN YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!" then afterwards i would say, "PICK UP (listing all these book titles) AND WE'LL TALK AFTERWARDS!"

[4] BOTH! That's one of the choices, right? Well, on the other hand, i read more, and i have to be in the mood to write, but either way, when I get down to it, I <333 Both. It's just two components in one!

P.S. I had fun answering the questions, RUBY!!!!

    1. YAY! I'm glad you had fun! Picture books are great too! When I was very little my favourite picture book was this one called Pumpkin Soup and then when I was bit older I really liked this manga series about these cats... I can't remember the name though… Oh, and those phrases are very persuasive! XD Thanks for sharing your answers! :)

  3. All I read was A Series of Unfortunate Events. I don't have a kindle but a Sony Ereader which kind of sucks because I can't get as many free books but I like it just the same... I would choose a normal book hands down. It's a better read. I don't write so... :P

  5. 1.) Oooooooh, I loved Redwall. Cried over almost every book. (Sounds stupid, crying over hares and mice... but they were cool and I loved them all.) I was also in love with Strega Nona, and (going really far back....) Sam's Toy, Sam's Car, Sam's Cookie... :D

2.)Oooh books. Real books. Not kindles. I think kindles may be kinda cool... but I really love the FEEL of books.

    3.)You're missing out.

4.)I like reading more... but I really love to write also. :)
