Book Trailers: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly…

Ruby :) | 20:56 | |
I've began to wonder why I start off each of my posts like this – I always write this pointless little paragraph at the top! Why? I don't ever say much, I just fill you in on very minuscule details of my life… Should I scrap them? I mean, should I start off my posts more professionally? Anywho (I don't even know if that's a word), on with today's post:

Book trailers seem to be quite controversial – some people love them, some people hate them, and some people couldn't care less! I for one have mixed feelings on them. Sometimes, they are just bad and look like a rubbish film trailer – you know, the cheesy stupid ones… Whilst other times, the trailer isn't bad, it just doesn't seem to suit the book. Rarely, the trailer is amazing, but like I said, that's rare! Today, I thought I'd share with you the trailers for what I'm currently reading!

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

In some ways I like this trailer, and some ways I really hate it. From what I've read of the book so far, this clip doesn't really suit the writing – especially the annoying voice over! But then, I absolutely love the music in the background, and find it really interesting the way the trailer is interactive... I much prefer the short section with the needle and the 'would you take the cure?' as it gets to the point of the book. All the shots of trees and sunsets put me off a bit… I know that will be very different for others.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

This trailer is quite original – I've never seen anything like it before! I love the way the music changes, and I also like the way it sets the scene… It's quite long, and requires concentration, but other than that, it really makes me want to read the book (despite the fact I'm already reading it)…

And now, one of my all-time favourite book trailers: Reckless!  I love the sound effects used, and it's really similar to the writing in the book!

I hope you enjoyed the post  – sorry it didn't involve much writing! But like I've mentioned a lot recently, I've got to learn tonnes of characters for my Mandarin Level 2!

  1. I love Deliriums' interactive trailer. I remember seeing right before or after I read the book an loved it.
The second one looks so good! It get's kind of Bioshock scary towards the end.
Reckless gave me chills. I really want to read it now.
They aren't any pointless paragraphs. It shows off your personality (:

    1. Yes, I think the interactiveness of it really goes with the book. I clicked 'no' and was sent to another video where I was told I was infected! As for the second one, I agree, it represents the mood of the book very well. And as for Reckless, I do recommend you read it! It might be a bit confusing, and the writing isn't always the best, but the plot is brilliant!

    1. I've been learning for around two years now! To begin with, we only learned the pinyin – which was quite easy – but now we have to know how to write stuff in characters! Oh, and I'm really enjoying Code Name Verity! It's taking me awhile to read, as I don't have much time at the moment, but never the less, I'm enjoying it! :)

  5. Love the growling monsters "feed me books!" I followed immediately. I don't know my stance on book trailers. If they have actual people in them, then I like them more, but they force an image of the characters. If they're just a tribute of moving pictures, then I'm bored. I guess I know my stance on book trailers. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm a total newbie!

    1. Thanks for following! I find that when trailers have real people in them, and real voices, they ruin the book for me... I like to be able to imagine characters from scratch – that's just me though! :)

  9. Hi Ruby!
Watching the trailers was so fun. :D

I believe Code Name Verity is written by Elizabeth Wein, not Lauren Oliver, though.

    Great post!
